We know that while you are here at Overlea Farm it is tempting to while away the days in the luxury of your cottage but if you do fancy a jaunt out then there is so much to do and see in the surrounding breathtaking countryside.
You can by taking in the local sights, browse the shops , treat yourself in the eateries or more of a workout by tackling the peaks.

Buses
The 358 bus runs between Stockport – New Mills – Hayfield with connections to Manchester and Glossop.
Follow the footpath to Hayfiled Rd (A6015).
Trains
A short journey to New Mills Station (less than 3 miles) gives you train links Manchester, Stockport and Sheffield.

You can also use the OS Maps app on your smartphone, it has free maps and a paid version for route finding.

Sett Valley Trail
The Sett Valley Trail is two and half miles in length and used for recreational purposes by walkers, cyclists and horse riders. It follows the former track of the railway line that linked Hayfield with Manchester as far as New Mills. The route forms part of the Pennine Bridleway National Trail between Hayfield and Birch Vale and is of outstanding natural beauty.

New Mills Heritage & Information Centre
The Centre is a fully registered museum and includes a shop and sales area selling publications, maps and trails. The displays describe the formation of the Torrs gorge, the pre-industrial history including Domesday and the royal forest.

Kinder Scout
If you’re seeking some of the most famous, challenging and rewarding walks in the Peak District National Park, then look no further than Kinder Scout. As the highest point in the Peak District, Kinder Scout boasts unforgettable views, unique moorland and even a waterfall. It offers some of the most challenging but rewarding walks in the Peak District, where you’ll encounter gentle streams, dark gritstone, steep rocks to scramble up, unique peat and the glorious Kinder Downfall.

Lyme Park, House and Garden

New Mills Golf Club

Poole's Cavern & Buxton Country Park
Poole’s Cavern is the most spectacular natural cavern in the Peak District. Wonder at the amazing crystal formations which adorn the vast illuminated chambers on a one hour guided tour. The Pavilion Gardens
A wonderful Grade 2 Listed Building with 23 acres of beautiful Victorian landscaped gardens, in the centre of Buxton, on the banks of the River Wye. The Gardens include a combination of walks, lakes, play areas and miniature train ensure that they remain a firm favourite with the whole family. The Gardens restoration project was supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and achieved its aim of restoring the Pavilion Gardens back to its original Victorian style.

Castleton Village

Monsal Trail
The Monsal Trail is a traffic free route for walkers, cyclists, horse riders and wheelchair users through some of the Peak District’s most spectacular limestone dales.
The trail runs along the former Midland Railway line for 8.5 miles between Blackwell Mill, in Chee Dale and Coombs Road, at Bakewell.

Crich Tramway Village
Crich Tramway Village is a family visitor attraction and home to the National Tramway Museum. Take a trip back in time and ride vintage trams into the open countryside. There’s an enchanting Woodland Walk and Sculpture Trail, Tearoom, gift shop, children’s play areas, exhibitions and Workshop Viewing Gallery. Bakewell
Perhaps best known for its unique and delicious Pudding, Bakewell has many more tempting treats to offer – ranging from shopping and specialist markets to relaxing strolls and special events.
Idyllically situated on the banks of the river Wye, the biggest town in the Peak District National Park’s mellow stone buildings, medieval five-arched stone bridge and quaint courtyards are a magnet for painters, photographers and sightseers alike.
Heights of Abraham
Since first opening to visitors in 1780 the Heights of Abraham has remained one of the Peak District’s most appealing destinations where stunning natural beauty is matched by human achievement and where the historic blends seamlessly with the futuristic. Today the Heights is rightly famous for its landmark cable car which provides a spectacular journey across the Derwent Valley. At the summit people can experience a unique blend of attractions.
